Bayern Munich to offer Chelsea target David Alaba a new contract
According to a report from Daily Mail, Bayern Munich will renew their attempts to extend the contract of defender David Alaba, who has been linked with a switch to Chelsea recently.
Alaba, 28, has been one of the ever-present figures in Bayern’s recent dominance in the Bundesliga. The Austrian joined the Bavarian outfit from Hoffenheim back in 2011 and has made nearly 400 appearances, winning a host of titles and trophies.
His contract though, is set to run out next year. Talks over a new deal have been going on for a number of months but the two parties haven’t been able come to an agreement. (h/t Daily Mail)
This has led to speculations over his future in Germany, with Chelsea one of the clubs lining up a move for Alaba. (h/t Daily Mail)
While he is a top-notch left-back, the Austrian has played as a centre-half this season and has excelled in that role as well. In addition, he is equally comfortable in the defensive midfield role. So signing him would be quite a coup for our club.
However, Bayern are now set to launch another attempt to convince him to stay at the club. The German champions will now open contract talks with the Austrian again, with the Bundesliga season out of the way. (h/t Daily Mail)

This ought to come as a blow to our hopes of landing the 28-year-old defender. We have already made a couple of top signings in the form of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
A new left-back should be next on manager Frank Lampard’s shopping list, given that both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri haven’t convinced enough. However, with a move for Alaba in question now, it will be interesting to see who the club goes after.
