Twitter reacts as Marco van Ginkel extends Chelsea stay
Chelsea have confirmed on their official site that Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel has penned a new contract at the club.
The 27-year-old has featured just four times since joining the club in 2013. Nicknamed the next Frank Lampard, the youngster arrived at Stamford Bridge as the reigning Dutch Talent of the Year.
Unfortunately, he injured his ACL two months into his Blues stint and has had a horrid time with injuries since. Now by extending his term for another year, he has a chance to leave his mark at the Bridge.
He went out on loan three times, finally hitting form during his time at PSV Eindhoven. He scored 31 goals and supplied 10 assists in 64 games during his two-year spell at the Philips Stadion. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His leadership abilities saw him be made the captain at PSV whom he led to the Eredivisie title in 2018. (h/t Mirror)
Unfortunately, van Ginkel suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery. He has not played since (h/t BBC)
Now back to fitness, he has a chance to show Lampard what he can do. Hopefully, he will be able to regain his ability on the ball. Had it not been for injuries we would have had a gifted player in our midst.
A number of fans took to Twitter to react to the news. We take a look at a few of them below.

He should have been sold, though he was a promising player, but injuries had and effect on him. He wouldn’t be have have place in that Chelsea squad.

Good news, he never got a chance due to injuries although I would imagine this is the last chance saloon for him at chelsea.
