£91.3m – Chelsea starlet valued more than Lionel Messi according to latest data

Mason Mount is worth more than Lionel Messi

According to CIES Football Observatory (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea youngster Mason Mount is worth than Barcelona ace Lionel Messi in today’s market.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Premier League. He has made 41 appearances as Frank Lampard leads a youth revolution at Stamford Bridge.

His performances have seen him garner 6 goals and 5 assists for Chelsea this season. To put things into perspective, James Maddison made 7 goals and 7 assists in his first season in the top-flight.

Mason Mount has a higher transfer value than Lionel Messi

Still just 21, the youngster has a long way to go in his career. He has shown enough promise to suggest he can be a star for Chelsea.

Having already won six caps for England, he has been ranked among the world’s top 20 players in terms of their transfer value. His talent is evident as he made the Eredivisie Team of the Season in 2018 for Vitesse Arnhem at the age of 19.

His estimated worth of £91.3million means he is 19th in the overall standings in comparison to Lionel Messi’s £89.2million in the current market.

Mount has a bright future ahead

A major factor for Messi’s dop in valuation is his age and him being out of a contract next summer. All being said, the fact that he is valued that high at the age of 33 shows his standing in world football.

CIES’s data was produced using a unique algorithm that takes into account previous transfer fee, contract status, and on-field performances.

Kylian Mbappe tops the list at £230.9m and is followed by a slew of English internationals. This includes Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Marcus Rashford.

He also played a key role as England Under-19 won the European Championships in 2017 where he won the Golen Player award.
