Kai Havertz set for showdown talks with Bayer Leverkusen

According to German publication Bild (h/t Metro), Chelsea target Kai Havertz is set to hold crunch talks with Bayer Leverkusen regarding his future.

This comes in the wake of the DFB Pokal final against Bayern Munich to be played later this season.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a key transfer target for Chelsea in recent weeks. If it goes through he will become the second high-profile signing we have made from the Bundesliga this summer.

Kai Havertz is set for showdown talks with Bayer Leverkusen

According to the report, Havertz is open to a move to England and wants to play Champions League football next season. As things stand Chelsea will be able to meet that requirement.

Leverkusen are not assured of qualifying for Europe’s top competition following their loss against Hertha Berlin. They however remain hopeful that they can hold onto Havertz for another season. (h/t Metro)

With his contract a the club running until 2022, the Germans do hold the upper hand when it comes to negotiations.

Leverkusen chief Fernando Carro admitted that Havertz is ready to make the step up. He has waxed lyrical about the future of his ace performer saying anything could happen in the coming weeks. (h/t Metro)

The 21-year-old, valued at £90m, has scored 16 goals and 9 assists in 41 games so far this season. He has been in excellent form since the restart and has grabbed six goals and one assist in seven games. (h/t Transfermarkt)
