Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has revealed how he was paired with club legend Didier Drogba in his first-ever training session with the Blues senior team, according to Chelsea TV (h/t Football.london).
Loftus-Cheek has spent his entire career at Chelsea, having come through the youth ranks at our club. The Englishman made his first-team debut at the age of 18 under Jose Mourinho.
But the midfielder has now revealed that he was called up to first-team training when he was 16. And in his very first session with the seniors, Loftus-Cheek found himself paired with club legend Didier Drogba (h/t Football.london).
Speaking to Chelsea TV (h/t Football.london), Loftus-Cheek revealed:
“Everyone paired up and then (Didier) Drogba was left and I ended up pairing with him and man to man with him. It’s like he’s got a glow around him. When you’re that young and looking up to these players and they’re the first team players (they have) an aura about them that’s so amazing. ”
Loftus-Cheek also went on to claim that the feeling of coming through the academy to the first-team felt amazing before adding that Chelsea has a big place in his heart (h/t Football.london).
Till date, Loftus-Cheek has made 72 appearances for our first-team, scoring 12 goals and setting up 10 more. However, an Achilles injury he sustained last season has meant that the 24-year-old is yet to make an appearance under Frank Lampard this term.
Now back to full fitness, Loftus-Cheek has made it to the matchday squad on a couple of occasions. And the England international added that he was excited to get back on the pitch again (h/t Football.london).
