With the coronavirus pandemic spreading across Europe, football clubs too have started to what they can to help those fighting in the frontline – our medical personnel.
According to Sun (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea too are set to do their bit. They have offered to feed NHS workers in their corporate restaurants inside Stamford Bridge.
The Blues had already provided free accommodation at the club’s Millennium Hotel to hospital staff working near the stadium. Now, food too shall be provided, making their lives much easier.
The dining facilities are a part of Chelsea’s corporate hospitality. They are frequented by sponsors, businesses, and fans enjoying a meal before kick-off. With football suspended at least until April 30, these facilities have now been put to use for a good gesture.
With no football in the foreseeable future, the possibility of creating a temporary car park for NHS staff to use in front of the stadium is also being explored. (h/t Daily Mail)
The pandemic has put the football season on hold. With questions still pending on the ability to complete it, clubs stand to lose much financially.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea would have experienced the fourth-highest loss, standing at a substantial £91million.
This takes into account the disparity in earnings from TV viewership, matchday income and retail revenue. Only the Manchester clubs and Liverpool stand to lose more, with the trio’s losses going above the £100million mark.
As of now, the club has not applied for the government’s furlough program. The non-playing will continue to be paid in full.
Players too have played their part by donating generously to enable the Chelsea Foundation to continue helping those in need during the crisis.
