Chelsea Football Club has done their fans proud by their efforts to help the vulnerable amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Not only did the club not make use of the furlough scheme but has also opened up the club’s hotel for NHS workers free of charge.
According to the Independent, the club has gone one forward and will provide 78,000 meals to the NHS and charities that support the elderly and vulnerable groups.
The scheme is set to start this week and will continue every day for the next six weeks. These meals will be prepared by the club’s catering partner, Levy.
The aim is to help NHS staff who are working long hours. The facility will be provided to Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust across their five local hospitals. This included St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, Charing Cross Hospital in Fulham and Hammersmith Hospital.
The club’s move has been met with gratitude from professor Julian Redhead, the medical director at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Jess Millwood, the CEO of Age UK Kensington and Chelsea also offered her thanks to the club for their initiatives in what she termed a frightening and challenging time.
Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck reiterated the club’s commitment to helping the vulnerable sections of the society, especially at a time of great peril.
The club will also be working with other organizations namely Age UK, The Smile Brigade, Unity Works and other housing units in London to help the elderly and vulnerable.
In times of peril, football clubs all over the country have stepped up to help their local communities. We are extremely proud of our club for behaving with compassion and generosity in these fearful times.
