According to the Italian publication Tuttosport (h/t Daily Mail), French World Cup-winning striker Oliver Giroud has agreed on personal terms with Italian giants Inter Milan.
The 33-year-old was linked with a move to the San Siro last January. The move, however, did not happen and he was forced to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Interest from Italy was high with Lazio also keen on the player. Chelsea blocked all moves owing to a lack of cover up front. (h/t Daily Mail)
It has proved to be a fortuitous decision as Tammy Abraham suffered an injury. Giroud has since stepped up to the plate admirably.
The report goes on to say that the Frenchman is keen on a move to the Serie A. Giroud’s contract at the Bridge will be up in the summer. It was suggested that he would extend his stay in North London. It appears to not be the case anymore.
He could join up with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at Inter. Giroud played under the Italian in his final six months in charge of the club.
Moving on a free, Giroud will sign a two-year contract with Inter with an option for a third year. According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), he will earn £110,000-per-week at the club.
This will make him one of the best-paid players at the San Siro despite taking a pay cut from his £135,000-per-week contract at Stamford Bridge.
Giroud has made 76 appearances for the Blues since moving from Arsenal in 2018. He has since scored 21 goals and 13 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt) He famously opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 4-1 victory over Arsenal in last season’s UEFA Europa League final.
