According to a report by Football.london, Chelsea have been urged to shell out a fee in the region of £103m to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak in the summer transfer window.
That is according to Graeme Souness, who said as much while speaking to Virgin Media Sport (h/t Football.london) after Liverpool’s defeat to the La Liga club in the Champions League.
The game ultimately came down to a battle between the two goalkeepers. While Adrian struggled at one end, Oblak emerged victorious on the other.
His skills were on display as he made some crucial saves to keep Atletico in the reckoning to beat the defending champions.
The report claims that Chelsea were interested in Oblak before signing Kepa Arrizabalaga, who hasn’t been at his best for a long time now. As a result, Frank Lampard has chosen to rely on back-up keeper Willy Caballero in recent games.
Hence, a move for Oblak in the summer does make sense. However, Football.london further claims that the Slovenian only signed a new contract with the Atletico last summer, which will effectively keep him at the Wanda Metropolitano for the next three years.
