Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour explains how Harry Maguire taught him a lesson

According to a report by The Mirror, Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour has spoken about the roughening up subjected by Harry Maguire during our Carabao Cup encounter against Manchester United last year.

The centre-back just grabbed the youngster during a set-piece, following which he surged ahead to defend. But Gilmour, 18, recently opened up about the incident following Chelsea’s victory against league leaders Liverpool in the FA Cup.

In that game, Gilmour looked like a player renewed. He craftily weaved past the likes of Fabinho, among other Liverpool players, and relentlessly worked towards making things happen for us.

He even pulled off a brilliant nutmeg to bamboozle Fabinho on one occasion, much to the delight of the fans.

“Basically he was saying I’m a wee guy,” said the midfielder. “He was pushing me off, gripping me by the throat, and that’s something I have to deal with. But I won’t let that happen again. That was a lesson.

Maguire is an established centre-back in the league and has also won the title with Leicester City. But Gilmour remained undaunted and added that he is working on his physicality to prevent something like this from happening again.

Stressing on a need to better himself, Gilmour also proclaimed that he is not a player who can be silenced (h/t The Mirror).

Gilmour had a memorable outing against Liverpool in the FA Cup and this should serve as a huge confidence booster to a budding youngster as talented as him.

The young guns have flourished under Lampard this season and it will be interesting to see how Gilmour progresses in his career at Stamford Bridge.
