According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea – along with fellow London outfit Arsenal – have sent out mobile gyms to the houses of their players to ensure they continue their training regimes despite the coronavirus scare.
A global crisis has erupted due to the virus which originated in China earlier this year. Economies are at a standstill and the footballing community has felt the effects as well.
Callum Hudson-Odoi became the first Premier League player to get tested positive for the disease, following which Chelsea announced a self-isolation period for anyone who came in contact with the youngster.
As a result, parts of Stamford Bridge and Cobham training ground were also shut down as a precautionary measure. And now, as per The Sun, the club have taken up steps to help the players maintain their fitness as the season remains suspended for the time being.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta recently tested positive for the deadly disease as well, thus prompting the Gunners to order their players to self-isolate to prevent it from spreading further.
The report adds that while many footballers have home gyms installed, both Chelsea and Arsenal have mainly undertaken steps to help out those who don’t have such services.
Along with sending bench pressing machines and treadmills, the team doctors and physicians are also closely in touch with the players.
It is great to see Chelsea taking such steps to curb the virus from causing further damage. Let’s hope we are able to resume the season soon enough.
