Chelsea confident about signing Ben Chilwell despite Leicester’s £80m demand
According to a report by The Metro, Chelsea remain keen on signing Leicester City ace Ben Chilwell despite the club’s £80m asking price.
The report claims that Frank Lampard is on the hunt for a new left-back. Marcos Alonso hasn’t been convincing enough while Cesar Azpilicueta’s preferred position is not at left-back.
That leaves Emerson Palmieri, who has been a peripheral figure at Stamford Bridge for the longest time now.
Even during the January window, Chelsea were interested in his services but no deal materialized. As a result, depending on when the season resumes and when the summer transfer window commences, the Blues are ready to sign him – even though the Foxes are demanding £80m.
The 23-year-old, who currently earns wages in the region of £65,000-a-week, has been a top talent in the Premier League. If Chelsea succeed in signing him, The Metro suggests that he would be receiving a higher salary as well.
Considering the fact that Chilwell has four years left on his current deal with the club, it goes without saying that Leicester will play hardball.
