According to a report by The Metro, Chelsea starlet Reece James has backed academy ace Tino Anjorin to follow Billy Gilmour’s footsteps in the near future.
Gilmour, who joined us from Scottish giants Rangers, made a spectacular breakthrough in the first-team earlier this season. As of now, the campaign has been suspended until the end of April as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus outbreak.
Before that though, the teenager became an integral member of the first-team squad. He put in a promising display in our FA Cup win over Liverpool, despite coming up against some of the best players in the league.
In addition, Gilmour put in a match-winning performance against Everton in the Premier League. And during an Ask Me Anything Q&A with Bleacher Report on Thursday (h/t The Metro), James backed Anjorin to follow suit.
When asked as to who might be the next Gilmour, James said: “Be on the lookout for Tino Anjorin. He’s debuted already but he’s one who can break into the first team.”
An unused substitute in the FA Cup win over Liverpool, Anjorin made his debut against Everton. In fact, he got close to scoring after a neat set-up by Gilmour.
The Chelsea academy is bursting with talented players and it is a refreshing change to see such young talent coming through.
