Brazilian midfield star Willian has decided to leave Chelsea when his contract expires in June, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Express).
The 31-year-old will bring an end to the seven-year association with the Blues, having joined the club in 2013. He has since gone on to make 326 appearances while scoring 57 goals and registering 58 assists.
He has not yet decided his next destination and will not be rushed into making a decision. The Brazilian is keen on making the right choice and will take his time doing so.
Willian is unlikely to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge given the club’s disinterest in entertaining some of his key demands.
According to the player, the club is willing to offer him a two-year deal while he is adamant on one that extends his stay by at least three years. The report goes on to say that Willian is tired of waiting and has decided to make his move in the summer.
He recently revealed that the club is unwilling to up their extension offer of two years leaving negotiations in a tough spot.
“I said I wanted three more years. The situation is difficult because of this “
He is confident that he can obtain a lucrative contract elsewhere and will bide his time until the right club appears.
Willian reiterated his commitment to giving his best during his reminder at the club and help Chelsea win as many games as possible.
“I have a clear head and focused for the rest of the season that we have left.”
The player was linked to a move to Barcelona. The Catalans have however withdrawn their interest given the player’s age.
Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are, however, keeping tabs on the 31-year-old Brazilian and also met up with the player’s representatives in January.
Willian won both the Chelsea Player of the Year and the Player’s Player of the Year awards in 2015-16. He has also won five major trophies with the Blues including last season’s Europa League.
