Chelsea to complete £23m transfer of this Serie A star

Chelsea have agreed to meet the asking price of Inter Milan’s Matias Vecino

According to the Daily Express (h/t Metro), Chelsea have agreed to meet Inter Milan’s asking price for Matias Vecino.

The Blues have prioritized the signing of a central midfielder and have set their sights on the Uruguayan international.

Inter value the player at £23 million which Chelsea have agreed to meet. Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is the current manager of Inter. The Italian is keen to offload Vecino to free funds for the summer.

Matias Vecino will cost Chelsea £23 million

Having signed from Fiorentina in 2017, the 28-year-old has made 91 appearances for the Nerazzurri and has scored 11 goals. (h/t Whoscored)

The midfielder was linked with a January move to Manchester United and Everton. Fortunately for Chelsea, neither of the clubs were able to agree on a fee. (h/t Metro)

The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Inter with Antonio Conte preferring to use Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic and Borja Valero when fit. Stefano Sensi’s good form has also seen Vecino go out of favor.

The signing of Christian Eriksen will not have helped Vecino’s cause either.

If the transfer goes through, it will be Chelsea’s second signing for the summer. The Blues have already agreed on a deal for Ajax Amsterdam star Hakim Ziyech. (h/t Metro)

Vecino has three goals and two assists for Inter in 21 appearances this season. (h/t Whoscored)

The midfielder has also won 41 caps for the Uruguayan national side.

He scored the winner in the 1-0 win against Argentina that ensured his country qualified for the Olympics in 2012. This was Uruguay’s first appearance in 84 years.
