Maurizio Sarri, who recently left Chelsea to become the manager of Juventus, is confident that Gonzalo Higuain would join him next season, according to the Sun.
The Argentine striker joined the Blues in the latter half of the season on loan from Juve but failed to make any sort of impact. In fact, the 30-year-old scored only 5 goals in 15 appearances, a mediocre stat for a player of his quality.
With the Londoners looking reluctant to extend his stay, Higuain’s future is hanging in the balance and Sarri hinted that he could return to his parent club.
Sarri said (h/t the Sun),
“I get the feeling he didn’t enjoy the post-Juventus experience and was a little shaken after that season. He is a Juventus player, so when he returns from vacation, we’ll have the opportunity to talk.”
The Italian manager tends to have a strong bond with Higuain during his time at Napoli, which eventually persuaded the Argentine to follow Sarri’s footsteps after an interim loan spell with AC Milan.
In his first ever managerial stint outside Italy, Sarri led the Blues to Europa League glory and helped them finish third in the Premier League table.
With Alvaro Morata out of favour and Olivier Giroud’s lack of form, the Blues’ striker void has been left wide open now.
Tammy Abraham looks like an optimal solution after his impressive loan spell with Aston Villa, bagging 26 goals – the club’s highest ever goal tally by a player in a single season over a decade.
