Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is set to join Atletico Madrid, according to the Sun.
The Blues left-back has clearly fallen down the pecking order of Maurizio Sarri, who preferred Emerson as the first choice in the Europa League final too.
The Spanish international also didn’t feature in the Europa League final against Arsenal at Baku. Earlier, Alonso hinted that his Stamford Bridge future remains uncertain amidst the interest from Real Madrid.
Now, Atletico look to have lured the Spaniard to Wanda Metropolitano given that their primary defenders Lucas Hernandez and Filipe Luis are poised for a summer exit.
Alonso, 28, made 31 appearances in the Premier League this season with a goal tally of 6. However, he starred in only 4 Europa League games. And it looks obvious that his future in London remains bleak, though he has a contract until 2023.
The Blues have been handed a transfer ban by FIFA for the next two transfer windows, which will obstruct them to make any new signings.
They also ended the season on a high note by winning the Europa League as well as finishing third in the Premier league table.
Given the transfer ban, it remains to be seen if we choose to offload Marcos Alonso.
