The Blues want highly-rated David Neres at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have now turned their eyes towards Ajax forward David Neres after failing to strike a deal with Luka Jovic (h/t The Daily Star).

The Eintracht Frankfurt striker is now set to join Real Madrid and the Blues are citing £40m-rated Neres as his replacement. The Blues are ready to cash in on the Brazilian prodigy should the transfer ban get lifted.

Neres’ breakthrough season at Amsterdam

The Brazilian forward has been a revelation for Erik Ten Hag’s side this season, garnering 12 goals and 8 assists across all competitions.

The 22-year-old also provided a helping hand for the Dutch giants to achieve domestic double this season.  Furthermore, Neres’ goal against Juventus in the Champions League proved to be significant and helped in thrashing the Serie A giants in quarter-finals. Later, Ajax lost to Tottenham in the semifinal.

His good run of form has now earned him a national call-up for the upcoming Copa America tournament.

Chelsea’s striker conundrum

The Blues have booked their name in the Europa League final and are set to face fellow Premier League side Arsenal.

Despite finishing third in the Premier League table, the Londoners have to sort out certain things before they could seek glory in the upcoming season.

One such thing is the attack, which was unstable throughout the season owing to the poor form of primary strikers Alvaro Morata, Olivier Giroud and Gonzalo Higuain.

Having said that, Maurizio Sarri certainly needs a young and high-profile forward who can enhance his side’s attacking prowess. Neres would provide the cutting edge to the Italian Manager’s attacking line-up with his profound talent.

Furthermore, the Eredivisie youngster possesses the traits of a typical Brazilian forward, repleted with skills, blistering pace and clinical finish. His ability to play on either flank should not be taken for granted.
