Chelsea hopeful of signing Serbian striker Luka Jovic amidst transfer ban
Chelsea still remain the favourites to sign Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic should the transfer ban get rescinded, according to Express. It is also stated that Stamford Bridge would be the preferred destination for the Serbian over Manchester United.
The Blues were dealt with a huge blow after the FIFA imposed a ban for the next two transfer windows.
And in fact, the appeal was also played down by FIFA, means the ban still stands. As a fallout, the Londoners are restricted to buy or borrow players in the upcoming windows.
The Blues-linked Jovic has taken the Bundesliga by storm after notching up 17 goals and 5 assists so far this season. Furthermore, the 21-year-old’s 10 goal-haul in the Europa League shows that he is one of the hottest prospects at present.
Chelsea’s need for a striker
After Alvaro Morata sought a loan move to Atletico Marid, the Blues acquired Gonzalo Higuain on a temporary basis from Juventus. Higuain previously spent an impressive loan spell with AC Milan.
But Maurizio Sarri’s protégé struggled to find his form, much to everyone’s dismay. The Italian manager rotated the striker’s role between the Argentine striker and Olivier Giroud, who has also been struggling throughout the season.
