Olivier Giroud is wanted by the Ligue 1 side Bordeaux, claims L’Equipe (h/t Football.London).
The French World Cup star hasn’t been at his best for Chelsea in the Premier League this season while his Europa League campaign proves out to be more impressive.
He has netted 10 goals in the in 12 Europa League games this season with an overall tally of 16 across all competitions.
However, the former Arsenal striker’s contract is up this season and the Blues seem to have no plans of extending his contract.
Bordeaux has now expressed their clear interest in the 32-year-old and want him back in his country. Bordeaux’s sporting director Hugo Varela said,
People who know [Giroud] have told us so much about him as a player, of course, but also as a person. He has the attributes we are looking for, but he isn’t the only one.
“Regardless of who comes, we know negotiations will be hard.”
Maurizio Sarri has rotated with Giroud and Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine striker was also found sloppy at times, which has left the Italian manager in a dilemma.
Alvaro Morata, who recently sought an exit to Atletico Madrid on a loan move, has found his feet after a tough time in London.
The Blues have secured a place in the Champions League next season and can end this season on a high note as they are set to face Arsenal in the final of the Europa League.
