Gonzalo Higuain ‘almost certain’ to return back Juventus in the summer

Gonzalo Higuain came to Chelsea in January to get his career back on track but it hasn’t gone according to the scripts for the Argentinean centre-forward.

The 31-year-old striker enjoyed a fantastic spell working alongside Maurizio Sarri previously at Napoli which prompted the Italian tactician to persuade Chelsea to sanction a six-month loan for him in January, with the option of a permanent transfer.

The Blues agreed to do so and sign Gonzalo Higuain, who had joined AC Milan on loan from Juventus last summer. However, the move hasn’t quite worked for us as Higuain has managed just three goals in 13 games across all competitions. And he has lost his place in the side lately, with Sarri preferring Eden Hazard as a false 9 in the defeat at Liverpool last weekend.

Now Chelsea are planning to not make Higuain’s deal permanent in the summer and instead, send him back to Juventus, report Italian news out Gazzetta dello Sport. (h/t The Metro)

But the problem for the Blues could be if we send the Argentina international back to Juventus, we may not be able to replace him in the summer after being hit by a two-window transfer ban. Although we have appealed against the ban, it remains to be seen what the final verdict is.

The report adds Juventus don’t want the 31-year-old back in Turin, which complicates the matter further.

Higuain’s deal shouldn’t be made permanent

Higuain has done barely anything to claim his deal needs to be made permanent at the end of the season. He did start well, though, but goals only against relegated Premier League sides Huddersfield Town and Fulham aren’t the reasons why we took him on loan in January.

Hence, it’ll be wise on our part if we don’t make the ex-Real Madrid star’s deal permanent.
