Why Chelsea should target Tottenham star Heung-Min Son to replace Eden Hazard

Chelsea have already accepted the fact that superstar Eden Hazard is leaving next summer, barring some miracle that causes Neymar to join Real Madrid, which scraps the move for the Belgian. However, while they did sign Christian Pulisic over the winter window, even Chelsea knows that he won’t be enough to bridge the chasm that will leave.

What Chelsea needs is a bonafide goal-scorer, someone prolific enough to help smooth the transition and while they do have unlimited resources, they have a history of spending it on the wrong players. The likes of Alvaro Morata, Danny Drinkwater, Fernando Torres and so many others come to mind, which is why it makes this summer window that much more important.

Not only does Chelsea need to target the right man, but more so they should target Tottenham star, Heung-Min Son. The 26-year-old is smack in the middle of his best years as a footballer and it has shown this season. So far the South Korean winger has produced 24 goals in all competitions, but what does make him a great move for Chelsea is the fact that he’s Premier League proven.

England’s top tier is not the easiest place to play football in and it has eaten and destroyed more than its share of players. This means that new man Christian Pulisic should in all likelihood take some time to adjust to the Premier League’s high-octane style of football. While many Chelsea fans do hope that he takes to it like a fish in the water that may not happen.

That is exactly why Son would be a great move for the Blues and with the South Korean adding consistency and goals to his game this season, he should be able to ease the transition. While Tottenham will be unwilling to sell someone who is easily among their top three best players, a large enough transfer fee should be more than enough to convince a team in transition.

Eden Hazard himself should command somewhere north of a £100 million, while the likes of Danny Drinkwater, Alvaro Morata and even Pedro potential moves could add to the transfer kitty. That combined with the money that Roman Abramovich will inject in next summer, plus potential Champion League qualification will help to convince Heung-Min Son to leave and Tottenham to sell.

The Blues need a complete overhaul of their side with the core of their first team ageing badly, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have the funds to make the move. What Chelsea does need, however, is the confidence and the guile to convince a top-six rival to sell them a future star.
