Chelsea and AC Milan are finalising the details of a swap deal with Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain switching clubs, according to Sport Mediaset (h/t Metro).
The players have struggled at their respective clubs this season, with Higuain joining Milan on loan from Juventus. Morata currently has an injury but has seen Eden Hazard play as a false-9 in recent games.
The report adds that the only decision to be made is the nature of the swap. One option sees both players move on six-month loans with the Argentine striker returning to Milan once the deal is over.
The other option sees Higuain’s loan move being cancelled at Milan with him joining Chelsea on loan and then make the deal permanent at the end of the season. Morata, for his part, would join the Serie A giants on an 18-month deal.
The report adds that Juventus have to give the go-ahead for Higuain’s move since he is on loan from the Turin giants.
Maurizio Sarri knows Higuain extremely well from his time at Napoli, and it will be interesting to see what the Argentine is capable of doing in the Premier League should we sign him.
The Blues have hit a bit of a rough patch in recent weeks with losses to Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chelsea sit 11 points behind leaders Liverpool and are in the top four ahead on goal difference. We require a quality striker in the side and a loan deal for Higuain would not be the worst move for Chelsea.
