Chelsea transfer news: Arsenal interested in signing veteran Blues star in January

Gary Cahill of Chelsea

The Express claims that Arsenal are interested in Chelsea defender Gary Cahill. The Englishman is not a regular starter under Maurizio Sarri and has played just 21 minutes of Premier League football this season for the Blues.

The report adds that Sarri is ready to let Cahill leave in the January window, and Ladbrokes (h/t Express) have the Englishman at 7/4 to move to the Emirates.

Unai Emery is looking to strengthen his defence and the report claims a deal could take place between the parties on January 1.

Cahill has played four games in the Europa League but first-team starts are a rarity in the Premier League for him and Andreas Christensen.

Sarri prefers the pairing of Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz in the heart of the defence and this would not be the first time a Chelsea player would switch to Arsenal.

Petr Cech is another star who joined the Gunners. It will be interesting to see if we bring anyone in the winter window to provide cover for Luiz and Rudiger.

Cahill’s experience would be useful under Sarri and hopefully selling him in January does not come back to bite us.
