Cesc Fabregas saves the day: Chelsea player ratings from 3-2 win over Derby County

Chelsea made hard-work of Derby County in their Carabao Cup clash but came out 3-2 winners at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard was the opposing manager, and his side can consider themselves a little unlucky losing the game.

All five goals came in the first half with Fikayo Tomori opening the scoring for us with an own-goal. Jack Marriot scored in the ninth minute before we were handed another own-goal, by Richard Keogh.

Martyn Waghorn levelled for the Championship side but Cesc Fabregas got the winner in the 41st minute of the game.

Maurizio Sarri field a much-changed starting XI and here are the player ratings from Stamford Bridge.

Willy Caballero – 6.5/10

The keeper made a couple of good saves but could have done better for the goals he conceded. His passing wasn’t great either during the game.

Davide Zappacosta – 6/10

It was a mixed night for the Italian as he was great in attack, helping set up all three goals. However, he was poor while defending and could have done better

Gary Cahill – 4/10

The Englishman’s pass to Fabregas created the first goal for the Rams, and Cahill struggled with Christensen in the back four.

Andreas Christensen – 3/10

The Dane wants more playing time but won’t get it with performances such as this. He was all over the place and was subbed in the second half.

Emerson Palmieri – 4/10

Another player that struggled defensively, Palmieri did well to join the attack but there was no end product from the left-back.

N’Golo Kante – 6/10

Another player that wasn’t up for it tonight. Kane struggled to get a foothold in the game as Derby made light work of our midfield.

Cesc Fabregas – 6.5/10

The Spaniard got the all-important winner but even the normally calm Fabregas couldn’t get a foothold in the game.

Mateo Kovacic – 4/10

This was possibly the worst showing from the Croatian since he moved from Real Madrid. Kovacic was on the fringes of the game and barely defended against the Rams.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 7/10

Our best attacker on the night, Loftus-Cheek seemed our best bet for scoring. The Englishman didn’t find the back of the net but was a threat to the Rams.

Alvaro Morata – 3.5/10

Morata was invisible for most of the first half and barely did anything worth noteworthy in the second. Surprising, given how well he did against Burnley.

Willian – 5/10

A poor outing from the Brazilian as he barely looked like he was in the game.

Substitutes

David Luiz – 5/10

Luiz was brought on to make the defence tighter as he replaced Christensen.

Pedro – 5.5/10

The Spaniard didn’t make much of a difference to the side once he came on.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 6/10

Came on late to shore up the defence for Chelsea.
