Maurizio Sarri ready to accept consequences of altercation with Manchester United

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is ready to accept the consequences of assistant coach Marco Ianni’s improper conduct charge from the Football Association.

Ianni goaded Jose Mourinho on the bench when Ross Barkley scored the equalizer in the 2-2 draw between the Blues and Manchester United.

That led to an altercation between the coaches from both sides with stewards and referees needing to split the parties.

Sarri was quoted by the Guardian where he admitted that his assistant was wrong and had apologized to Mourinho after the game.

The Italian added that he would give his assistant “another opportunity” and that Ianni has realized “the mistake”.

“But you need to learn from the mistake, and so I think he will be able to do this. I know [him] very well, so I am sure. For the FA I don’t know, I haven’t experienced that here. I don’t know the consequences, but we were wrong so we have to accept the consequences.”

Sarri added that he did not know what punishment would be handed down to Ianni but would respect the decision of the FA.

Chelsea’s next game is against Bate Borisov in the Europa League and there should be a number of changes in the starting XI since Sarri has rotated the squad throughout the tournament.

Hopefully, we won’t see similar actions to those from the United game and learn from this incident.
