Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has claimed that defender David Luiz was left “confused” by his lack of playing time under Antonio Conte. (Sky Sports)
The former Chelsea manager was replaced by Sarri this summer and as a by-product of that move, Luiz has played all the Premier League games so far.
The Brazilian was an essential figure for the side once he returned from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016 but Sky Sports claims he had a fallout with Conte which reduced his time on the pitch.
Sky Sports quoted the new Chelsea manager as saying:
“Two seasons ago, he was a protagonist.
“Then six months ago, he was not playing, so he was a little confused.
“He’s direct. If he has to say something to the manager, he has to talk to me. I like very much direct people.”
Sarri, however, was convinced of Luiz’s quality and claimed he is much better than expected.
“When I arrived here, immediately I had the feeling he’s a very good player for my way of football because he’s a centre-back who is very technical.
“Then I appreciate his qualities as a man. He’s really better than I thought before.”
The central defender has been in decent form for us this season and hasn’t made too many errors at the back.
