Roman Abramovich sets staggering £2.5billion asking price to sell Chelsea

Roman Abramovich

Roman Abramovich is ready to sell Chelsea if an offer of over £2.5billion is received, according to the Times (h/t Metro).

The club had denied reports of looking for a buyer but the Times claims that our owner has set an asking price of at least £2.5bn, which would be the biggest takeover in football history.

The report from the Metro adds that Abramovich has hired Raine Group, a US investment bank, to find interested parties from China, the Middle East and the US.

The Raine Group is the same organisation that helped Manchester City sell a 13% stake of their club to Chinese investors, as per the Metro.

Jim Ratcliffe

The report adds that Britain’s richest man, Jim Ratcliffe, made a £2bn offer for the Blues but that was rejected in the summer.

Abramovich will only sell if his asking price is met and that would make us the second-most valuable club after Manchester United, as per the Metro.

The Blues have won numerous titles under Abramovich but plans to expand Stamford Bridge have been put on hold (h/t Sky Sports).

Selling the club would be a huge move for Abramovich and instead, perhaps bringing in investors would work better for the Blues.

We would require additional funds to sign some of the best players in the world and if a deal similar to City’s can take place, every party could be pleased.
