Maurizio Sarri has claimed that Thibaut Courtois’ move to Real Madrid on the last day of the transfer window was motivated by personal reasons.
The Belgian keeper effectively went on strike according to the Metro as he was heavily linked with a move to the Spanish capital throughout the summer.
The 26-year-old was one of the best players at the World Cup in Russia but he did not return for training at Chelsea according to the Metro. The report also claimed that the Belgian keeper’s two children in Madrid were a factor in his decision.
Sarri was quoted by Metro as he spoke about the situation with Courtois and even added that Eden Hazard is happy to stay here.
“I don’t know. I think there were some personal reasons, so I cannot go on personal reasons.
“[Eden] Hazard is with us. It is not a problem, I have spoken with his three or four times. He never said anything about the market. He is happy to stay here.”
The Belgian attacker too has been linked with a move away from the Blues (h/t Daily Star) but he could be staying at the club.
The transfer window for non-English clubs is open until the end of the month and it would be great if we can keep hold of the Belgian attacker this season.
Hazard, like Courtois, was one of the best players at the World Cup and he would be crucial to our chances of doing well in the Premier League and the cup competitions.
