“He is missing me” – Chelsea manager responds to former employer’s criticism

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has claimed that Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis misses him after criticising the lack of trophies during his stint at Napoli, as per ESPN.

Napoli finished in the top-three during the three seasons Sarri was in charge and were second behind Juventus in the 2017/18 campaign.

The report from ESPN claims that Sarri’s side finished on 91 points in the 2017/18 campaign, the most any team had collected without winning the Serie A title.

Sarri was asked if Laurentiis’ criticism was justified and the Chelsea manager was quoted by ESPN as saying:

“I don’t know. He is talking about me because he is missing me.

“We didn’t win in Naples, but we had the record number of points for the club, and the second and third best. We qualified three times for the Champions League, and it was unusual for Naples. So I think we did very well. Nobody won in Italy except Juventus in the last seven years.”

The report from ESPN added that the relationship between Laurentiis and Sarri soured over Chelsea’s move to sign the Italian manager. The Napoli president demanded compensation from the Blues and the problem was resolved when Chelsea decided to sign Jorginho too, as per the report.

Sarri claimed that he isn’t missing Laurentiis and his start with the Blues has been good, with two wins from two Premier League games.

The Italian’s next test is up against a former Chelsea manager in Rafa Benitez, and three points at St. James’ Park would certainly prove our mettle against tough sides too.
