Chelsea have made a world-record bid of £71.6m to sign Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga according to Sky Sports.
Thibaut Courtois is off to Real Madrid and BBC claims that the deal has been completed, with Kovacic traveling in the opposite direction.
Maurizio Sarri seems to like the Bilbao keeper as he was quoted by Sky Sport as saying:
“I saw him one year ago. My first impression was that he is a very good goalkeeper, very young, but very, very good.”
The 23-year-old Arrizabalaga played 31 games for Bilbao last season and was also a part of the 23-man squad for the Spanish team that went to the World Cup.
While Courtois going out of Chelsea, a number of fans shared their reactions to us lodging a world-record bid for the keeper and here are some of the best tweets from Twitter.
Giraffe – 35m pounds
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 71m poundsReplacing a ‘want away unprofessional’ player with a ‘potential to be world class’ player for 36m pounds. And also convincing RM to loan us Kovacic.
Great business @ChelseaFC 👏👏 #CFC

The fee being discussed is mental but at the same time Kepa Arrizabalaga could be our goalkeeper for over 10 years hear good things about the young keeper #CFC

FACT: 64 – Kepa Arrizabalaga was the goalkeeper with the third most saves from shots inside the box in La Liga last season (99 in total). Wow.#CFC #Kepa pic.twitter.com/Cv8P7OPKBZ

Why do I feel Chelsea agreeing to pay a world record fee of £71m to sign goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is outrightly ridiculous? Tbh, I’ve never seen him play before 😢#CFC

Kepa Arrizabalaga is a great GK no doubt. Paying £71M means he ‘d be more expensive than Alisson £67M. Athletic will not negotiate a lower fee for a quality Keeper as Kepa. If only Chelsea did not trust the betrayal TBO and went for him in Jan, the figure ‘d have been less. #CFC
