Roman Abramovich rejects offer to sell Chelsea to Britain’s richest man worth £21.05bn – report

Roman Abramovich

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has refused an approach to sell the club to Britain’s richest person, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that Jim Ratcliffe, the owner of petrochemicals giant Ineos, has expressed an interest in buying Chelsea Football Club.

Purchasing the Blues would cost Ratcliffe over £1bn but the bid was rejected by our Russian owner as he made it clear he is not looking to severing any ties with the Premier League club, despite recent issues.

Abramovich has had problems with a UK visa and also shelved the plans for an expansion of Stamford Bridge recently.

A friend of Ratcliffe even mentioned that spending £2bn to purchase Chelsea would be a “drop in the ocean” for the owner of Swiss club FC Lausanne-Sport.

Jim Ratcliffe

Ratcliffe is a season ticket holder at Chelsea but is known to be a Manchester United fan. The billionaire, who is valued at £21.05bn as compared to Abramovich’s £9.3bn, was a guest at our Cobham training ground.

It is interesting to read more about this as the report also says that Ratcliffe’s approach to buying Chelsea is just one of many. A bid had come in from China as well.

This could be a ploy to get as much money as possible for the club as Abramovich is a businessman and he would want to recoup all the money he pumped into the club.

However, this is a really worrying time as we are unsure about what the future holds for us. We still do not know about our manager’s position and our transfer plans are not set right too.

With speculation about who our owner could be, this will hamper our preparationsfor next season.
