Eden Hazard played 70 minutes for Belgium as the side defeated Costa Rica 4-1 in a World Cup warm-up match but there were fears over the player as he was substituted after taking a heavy knock.
Hazard is one of the brightest players in the Belgian side and they will be looking for his inspiration as they hope to win the World Cup in Russia.
The 27-year-old did help us win the FA Cup against Manchester United and even though he helped his side to a victory over Costa Rica, his manager Roberto Martinez was quick to play down the injury fears ahead of the World Cup.
The former Wigan manager was quoted by the Express as saying:
“At the end he just came off because he had a little bit of a dead leg, a little bit of a knock on his leg. Nothing to be worried about.”
That will come as great news for club and country. While we would want Hazard to be fit before the start of the season, Belgium will need his creativity at the World Cup as they have to face England in the group stages.
The Belgian looked to be in some pain when he was taken off but it seems that it was a precautionary step taken and he should be fit for the biggest tournament in international football.
It will be interesting to see just how well he does for the national side as he didn’t have the greatest of seasons for us. Hopefully, he can lead his country far in the World Cup.
