Tony Cascarino claims Chelsea will be envious of Tottenham’s quality

According to former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino, the Blues owner Roman Abramovich will be jealous of Tottenham Hotspur when he looks at the north Londoners who won their first game at Stamford Bridge after 28 long years.

The result moved Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs 8 points clear of Chelsea in the race for a top-four finish, with the North London club now having a comparatively tight clutch on qualification for next season’s Champions League.

According to talkSPORT, this will be the first time that Spurs will finish above both Chelsea and Arsenal in the same season since Pochettino’s arrival at Tottenham, meaning they are set to end the campaign as the highest-ranked London club in the Premier League.

Former Blues forward, Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will now be looking at Spurs with jealousy when he sees that they have achieved better results this season with only a small percent of the budget he has invested into Chelsea.

Antonio Conte

“A lot of clubs – including Chelsea – will be very envious of what Tottenham have got and the calibre of their team,” Cascarino was quoted by talkSPORT.

“Dominating London… that’s a big step for Tottenham. They’ve played second fiddle, not only to Arsenal for a long time, but [also] Chelsea with their success in there.

“And yes, Chelsea have spent a lot of money. But Chelsea are going to look across at Tottenham with a lot of envy, thinking: ‘what a great side they’ve got, a lot of years in their contracts left, players you would think are staying… the manager’s done an incredible job uniting that team’.

“Chelsea have spent and had times with incredible sides, but I think the owner, Roman [Abramovich], will look at them and think: ‘I’m paying double in wages that Tottenham do and spent a hell of a lot of money in the transfer market compared to Spurs – and they are better than us!’”

After a title-winning campaign last year, Antonio Conte’s tactics have failed, while the players have not performed at their best this season.

A lot of things have gone wrong but there is no point looking at the past. Conte’s men have to win the remaining games to try and end the season on a high.
