Chelsea and West Ham shared the spoils in the London derby on Sunday as the match at the Stamford Bridge ended 1-1.
Chelsea started positively as Eden Hazard curled his shot from the edge of the box, narrowly wide of the target.
West Ham weathered the early storm but could have taken the lead when Marco Arnautovic’s goal-bound shot was blocked by Gary Cahill. At the other end, Alvaro Morata saw his goal ruled out for offside.
Chelsea continued to push forward and Cesar Azpilicueta found himself in the right place at the right time to nick home a rebound from close range.
After the break, Willian should have made it two for Chelsea but his shot hit the wrong side of the woodwork before Morata had a goal disallowed for the second time.
The Blues were made to pay for those misses when Javier Hernandez stroked home from Arnautovic’s pull-back to draw the Hammers level with 17 minutes remaining in the game.
Antonio Conte threw the kitchen sink in search of a winner but his players failed to get past Joe Hart, who palmed away Marcos Alonso’s stinging effort before denying substitute Olivier Giroud’s header to help West Ham take a valuable point away from the Bridge.
Back from a hamstring injury but was a mere spectator until West Ham’s late revival.
The Spaniard was solid for the entire game and linked up well with Alvaro Morata. He scored his second Premier League goal of the season to give the Blues the lead.
Rudiger was very strong and showed good aggression to keep the West Ham at bay for a long time.
Cahill was strong when he needed to be, against Arnautovic. After a good performance, he would be disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet.
Once again, he was very poor with his crosses but made up for it with some good defending.
He saw one effort brilliantly saved by Joe Hart. Other than that, was very limited in contributing to the team’s attacks.
Kante at his best! He was supreme in the middle of the park, breaking up the play and dictating the tempo of the game. He made a crucial tackle to deny Arnautovic.
He was not at his best. Fabregas made some good passes and was guilty of slowing down the attacks a number of times.
Willian was a livewire in the first half and saw his effort curl wide off the post. He was good and on another day, he would have scored.
After some underwhelming performances of late, Hazard bounced back against the Hammers with a solid performance. He did a good job for the Blues but lacked the end product.
A threat in the air but other than that, he was very subdued. He made some good runs into the box but failed to produce the goods.
He came close to scoring but was denied by the excellent Joe Hart.
Tried to provide the cutting edge but failed to deliver.
