Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio is one of our top targets for this summer, so much so that Roman Abramovich is even prepared to sell Eden Hazard in order to make a deal happen. (Don Balon)
Asensio has been in stunning form this season. He was one of the main star performers as Los Blancos went on to impressively defeat French giants PSG over two legs to reach the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League.
The 22-year-old has been touted as a future Ballon d’Or winner.
Madrid are currently bidding to become the first club to win the Champions League three times in succession.
They have, however, been in poor form in the La Liga and trail runaway leaders Barcelona by 15 points.
Los Blancos are likely to undergo a major squad overhaul at the end of the season given their current level of performances in the League and one of their main targets for this summer is rumoured to be Hazard.
The Belgian is one of the world’s premier midfielders and he could be tempted to move to the Santiago Bernabeu, especially as we could well fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League; we are currently in fifth place on the Premier League standings and five points behind 4th placed Tottenham.
As Hazard is a key player and a leader in our team, we would not ideally want to part ways with him.
However, Abramovich is reportedly open to selling the player if he can get Asensio into our squad. Such a deal would be a gamble.
Though Asensio is a talented player, it remains to be seen whether he will adapt to life in English football. A lot of quality players have, in the past, failed to live up to the demands of English top-flight and there is a risk involved for sure.
