Former Chelsea midfielder Ramires has admitted that he wants to play for Chelsea once again before finishing his career.
Ramires joined Chelsea back in August 2010 from Portuguese side Benfica for a reported £17m under Carlo Ancelotti and went on to spend a five-and-a-half year successful stint in West London. Making more than 250 appearances in the process, the Brazilian made himself as one indispensable figure with which Chelsea won a Premier League, a Champions League, a Europa League and not to forget, a League Cup.
In the final few days of the January transfer window (in 2016), Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning came knocking on his doors and Chelsea sanctioned a reported £25million sale of the midfielder soon after, despite him agreeing to a new four-year deal with the Blues in October 2015. Ramires – Chelsea’s 2012 Players’ Player of the year – ended his first season at Jiangsu Suning by making 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring 5 goals.
Jiangsu Suning have just entered their final campaign under Fabio Capello, and Ramires has now admitted that Chelsea is a place where he still desires to play before he eventually decides to put an end to his career.
“It’s the team that will always have a special affection and where I still have the desire to play before ending my career,” he said in an interview with UOL Esporte.
“I’ve been treating an injury that I recently had at the club and I can say without a doubt that it’s like my second home there.
“I know that the doors of Stamford Bridge will always be open for me and to go back to wearing the club shirt some day would be spectacular.”
Back in 2017, TalkSport confirmed that Ramires will be training with Inter Milan ahead of a proposed move to Italy but a deal never came to fruition as Inter rather decided to sign Barcelona’s Rafinha on loan. Despite this, Ramires was still linked with Inter throughout January but eventually, the deal fell through. Ramires was quipped about the interest from Italy and he said,
“There has been a lot of talk about Inter’s interest, but nothing concrete has come directly to me, at least until today.
“Everyone knows Inter is a great club, and to play in Europe again is a desire I have. My reality and my focus is on helping the team make a great 2018 and nothing else is going through my head at the moment.”
