Chelsea could be Real Madrid star’s possible destination if Zidane remains the boss at Bernabeu – reports

Marco Asensio

Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio could join us at the end of the season if Zinedine Zidane remains as the manager of Los Blancos come the end of the season, according to Diario Gol (h/t Express).

Asensio is said to be unhappy with the way that he is currently being treated at the Santiago Bernabeu under Zidane. He started from the bench against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid towards the end of 2017 and has only managed to play 197 minutes of a potential 540 in the Champions League.

However, given that Real have launched a poor defence of the La Liga title and are currently in 3rd position on the standings, 15 points behind Barcelona, the club could part ways with Zidane at the end of the season and undergo a major squad overhaul. They are also 7 points behind city rivals Atletico.

Though Zidane led Madrid to back to back Champions League titles during his first two seasons in charge, the team is struggling in his third term as Los Blancos boss. Their latest defeat came last Tuesday as they lost to Espanyol for the first time since 2007, conceding a stoppage-time winner.

Asensio is determined to be successful in his time at Madrid and he will likely end up staying at the club if Zidane leaves. As he is a talented player who is likely to get better over the coming years, he will also likely be a part of the new manager’s plans if Zidane does end up departing.

Chelsea will be looking to strengthen their squad during the summer, given that their defence of the Premier League title this season has been underwhelming. We will certainly be looking at Asensio as a possible signing. Should Asensio, who has a contract with Madrid until 2023, sign for us in the summer, he will be reuniting with his former Los Blancos teammate Alvaro Morata.
