One of the few bright spots from a rather average season has been the form of Andreas Christensen. The Dane has become a permanent fixture under Antonio Conte but surprisingly, he was not a part of the squad that defeated Panama in a friendly today.
Christensen was expected to play a part in the game today but was instead sent back to Chelsea after it was revealed that the 21-year-old picked up a slight knock.
Speaking to the media, Denmark manager Age Hareide was quoted by the Metro as saying:
“Andreas Christensen has been sent home to London. We do not want to take any risks with him. We have called up Peter Ankersen and Lasse Nielsen, so we are adequately covered in defence.”
The Danish manager also said that the injury was not serious but the team did not want to take a risk with the youngster.
“I cannot say exactly what is wrong with Christensen, but it is a little fatigue.
“It’s not serious, but it can be. It is a bit frustrating because we would have liked to trial him in both central defence and as a defensive midfielder.”
The report from the Metro further claims that the 21-year-old wanted to play in the game but Chelsea and the national side decided to give him a break as the Premier League side would be facing Tottenham soon.
A Player For The Future
There might be a few fears that Christensen would be out for long but that has been allayed by the management. The 21-year-old has played 36 times for us in all competitions this season and has been incredible at the back.
Christensen is a player that has a lot of potential and credit must be given to Conte for playing him regularly.
Christensen is one of the players we need to keep for a number of years, given how young he is and his potential. Hopefully, he will get better next season and help us to a few trophies after a decent enough World Cup in Russia.
