Chelsea got back to winning ways after their rather insipid 1-0 loss at the hands of West Ham. The Blues were brilliant in midweek as they dispatched a tough Huddersfield side 3-1 away from home. Goals from Tiemoue Bakayoko, Willian and Pedro scored the goals that helped us into a 3-0 lead before Depoitre got a consolation goal right at the end.
The win kept us at 3rd place and as Liverpool drew against West Brom, we opened up a gap on the Reds. Antonio Conte would have to be careful as we look to take on Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
Another win should put a lot of pressure on Manchester United as we look to claw back into second place but we might make a few changes to our starting XI.
Here’s how the Blues might line up against the Saints.
Unless Courtois picks up an injury, I don’t think Willy Caballero will replace the Belgian in the starting XI.
Dave is possibly the most consistent defender we have and he should start the game against Southampton.
Cahill missed out on the last game but he was on the bench and he should replace Andreas Christensen in the back three.
The German seems to be finding his place in the team and he cannot be dropped now, given David Luiz’s injury.
Moses should hold on to his place from last game and he should be one of our biggest threats against the Saints.
Alonso has been an incredible signing for us and he is one of our most consistent players too. He should continue in his place.
Kante played in our last game and the former Leicester City man has to play once again as we need to keep the Southampton midfield at bay.
Bakayoko might have scored a goal in the previous game but we might need the passing ability and guile of Fabregas in this game as we need to pick up three points at home.
Willian has been rejuvenated in recent weeks and ever since his goal at Anfield, he has become more lethal in front of goal. Hopefully, he will set up a goal or two here.
The Spaniard has been doing pretty well of late and he should be looking to get on the score sheet as we look to pick up three points.
Without Alvaro Morata starting, at least in this game, it should be Hazard who could lead the line against the Saints.
