It was like an open secret that everyone knew. English Champions Chelsea FC announced the signing of AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko on Twitter and the responses showed all possible emotions.
One user was quick to point out that at last Chelsea could beat Manchester United in the transfer market. Surely, the pain of losing out on Romelu Lukaku is still hurting!
One of the Red Devils’ fans was quick to shove that theory out of the window by pointing out that they are after Fabinho and not Bakayoko. The tweet also rubbed salt in the wounds of Chelsea by reminding of a certain Lukaku!
One Blues supporter was tongue-in-cheek by talking about the delay and saying that this is the longest medical in history!
Another supporter was dreaming big as he set the next target for Antonio Conte. Obviously, a very ambitious one at that!
This was one signing that had all the twists and turns you expect of a transfer. There were initial apprehensions within the club over his injury, then the reported interest of Bakayoko and the unwanted long delay in getting the medical done.
However, all’s well that ends well and Chelsea got their number two target – we won’t say who was number one! The 22-year-old robust midfielder has signed a five-year contract and will wear the number-14 shirt at the Stamford Bridge.
Widely regarded as one of the best young midfielders in European football, Bakayoko’s performances last season were the biggest reason behind Monaco’s success. He even helped his side beat Manchester City in a thrilling two-legged contest in the Champions League by scoring the decisive goal.
Will Bakayoko have a similar impact at Chelsea? He has all the ingredients to be a hit at the club which explains the anticipation and excitement around his signature.
