Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has urged manager Antonio Conte to sign Arsenal and Manchester City stars Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero and says that the two players are enough for Chelsea to keep winning trophies in the future.
Conte has had a remarkable debut season in England, having clinched the Premier League title already. Chelsea are set to take on Arsenal tonight and the stakes are high and he would make history by winning the double in his first season in charge of Chelsea.
Cole spent seven years at Stamford Bridge before leaving for Liverpool in 2010. He racked up 182 appearances for the Blues, scoring 28 goals. Speaking to Goal,
“I’d go, ‘Go get me Aguero or Sanchez or both, and I want no one else,’ and I can guarantee you they’ll win the league next year. The thing is everything is in place. Everyone keeps talking to me about, ‘Oh, they need to replace Moses or Alonso’.”
They don’t, they’ve been brilliant. You don’t need to replace them. There’s enough young players as well in the academy that can come. They just need an extra bit. What [Sir Alex Ferguson] did well over the years is reignite with one or two big players.”
Joe seems to be right with his opinion. The team is well set and it is certainly the strongest and arguably, one of the best in Europe as well. As Cole says, it would be enough to re-ignite the squad next season by signing just one or two star players. A massive overhaul is certainly not essential and spending on too many players wouldn’t be a wise thing to do.
Abramovich is known to back the manager in the transfer market and so the whole choice of transfer dealings would lie with Antonio Conte. It is the Italian who’d decide the transfer dealings that Chelsea have to make this summer.
Although the fact is this, we never know what Conte is planning to do. He would be knowing a thing or two more than the outsiders and is the best person to make a decision regarding the matter.
