Latest On John Terry’s Future And The £12million-a-year Deal He Has Been Offered

According to the Times, John Terry has been informed by the London club that his contract won’t be extended. This follows after a discussion with Chelsea’s senior executives at Stamford Bridge.

Looking at the club’s exceptional progress so far this season, Chelsea fans are all smiles yet this news would be a huge hiccup.

With Chelsea relishing a run of 10 wins in a row and sit at the top of the league after 16 matches, it’s understandable why the former Juventus boss is reluctant to make changes to his well-oiled starting XI. In the course of collecting a haul of 27 points, the similar lineup is used on seven occasions. Moreover, the three-man backline has only conceded two goals since switching into a 3-4-3 blueprint. Which also highlights that the 36-year-old is no longer a missing piece of the puzzle.

However, the club skipper has been with the Blues since the age of 14 and has racked up 488 appearances. He has been a pivotal part in filling up Chelsea’s trophy cabinet over the years. Looking at his reputable stature, the chiefs may have ended his Chelsea career as a player yet have been holding talks to swap him as a coaching staff or ambassadorial roles.

Certainly it’s the best the club can do for their beloved legend. In return, the similar source reports that Terry will not pave way for a transfer in the January window. Most notably, he would ignore an eye-popping £12million-a-year contract from Shanghai Shenhua, a Chinese club currently managed by his former Chelsea colleague, Gustavo Poyet.

A number of Premier League top names, including Steven Gerrard and another Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, opted to continue their playing job at the MLS. At present, both mentioned players are in talks with their former Premier League clubs to take on coaching roles. Despite the more comfortable coaching role and spiffy-dressed punditry, it’s understandable that players do look for a route to scorn hanging up their boots.

Whatever the future holds for John Terry, the club deserves a mention for acting quickly. Last season, it was a little discomfiture as the veteran defender went public to unleash his frustration of not being offered a new deal. Following this incident, out of the blue the club extended his stay to a year on reduced terms.

Since the new formation was deployed, the Chelsea legend has only notched up 10 minutes against Everton yet barely broke a sweat as the match was already done and dusted with a 5-0 scoreline. Harking back to Frank Lampard’s short spell as a Manchester City player, the fans will be hoping that such nightmares would not occur again.
