Should The Blues Legend Decide To Join Hands With His Former Boss? Reports Suggest That Manager Wants A Reunion

Plenty of reports from last week have suggested that former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is seeking a reunion with John Terry in the upcoming January transfer window. Villas-Boas is currently at Shanghai International Port Group F.C, or SIPG FC, a club that hogged the headlines not long ago after securing the services of former Zenit Saint Petersburg striker Hulk for an eye-popping £320,000-a-week deal.

Thus, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Chinese club breaks the bank once again for their new target, as Terry would provide an instant impact to the team. However, big money isn’t the biggest concern for the defender as he turned down several offers from China and the Middle-East in the summer which includes a £12 million-a-year two-year offer from then SIPG FC manager, Sven Goran Eriksson. He rather extended his commitment at Chelsea with a 12-month contract back in May.

What SIPG FC could generously offer is regular playing time. Previously under the stewardship of AVB at Chelsea, Terry was the team’s chief organiser at the back despite a fall out with the manager, together with other senior players. The season then turned sour for AVB, who was replaced by his assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo after a string of poor results.

On the contrary, the Blues are brimming with excellence at the moment, six wins in a row and impressively sealing the goalpost in the progress. Antonio Conte’s employment of a 3-4-3 system might have hovered a fair amount of uncertainty at first, yet today it’s their most prized possession.  Terry would certainly be contented about their recent form yet his only pinch is not being a part of the team on the pitch. For years, the England international has been a reliable kingpin at the heart of Chelsea’s defence, but at 35 years of age, the defender’s best years are certainly behind him.

Also, the return of Kurt Zouma after being out for 7 months with an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury has further hampered the hopes of Terry to discover a way back into the first team, with Zouma being underlined as Terry’s successor in the long run. Stretching the woes, Chelsea are not partaking any European football this season, which further limits the playing time of Terry.

If he decides to leave, without a doubt, a host of Premier League clubs would buzz forward to snatch a deal, as Terry does not only nullifies threats at the back, he always has an eye for goal, especially during set pieces. He is the highest-scoring defender in the Premier League era with a remarkable 40-goal mark. For the Chelsea faithful, it would be devastating to watch if their beloved legend trades to another Premier League team, having seen Frank Lampard in the sky blue top of Manchester City.
