Chelsea Blog: Is This The End Of Road For This Former Arsenal Star At Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea have a roller coaster season till now. Conte started his Blues tenure with a string of victories but soon found himself facing the prospect of a third straight defeat after facing humiliation from Liverpool and Arsenal. However, things are looking quite bright for Chelsea right now, they won three in a row in the league and currently occupy the fourth spot on the table. The most impressive thing about this run has been that the Blues haven’t conceded a single goal in the last three matches. Their 4-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday was one of the best team performances of the season. The turnaround can be attributed to the fact that Conte has finally decided to go with a back three system, that he used so wonderfully during his time at Juventus and Italian national team.

Conte will also be pleased to see that his two top stars, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa, have shaken off any cobwebs that remained from last year and are performing back at their best. Costa, in particular, has been super impressive till now, as he is currently leading the Golden Boot race with seven goals. However, what is worrying for the Chelsea supporters is the sudden disappearances of Cesc Fabregas from the first team set-up. The Spanish international has played a grand total of 92 minutes in the Premier League this season. His first start came in the 3-0 defeat against his former club Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Something is not working right for the 29-year-old, who was one of the pillars on which Mourinho plotted his title win two seasons ago. Conte doesn’t seem to much care for Fabregas, as he prefers the solid partnership of Matic and Kante in the middle to act like a shield in front of his back three. There have been some rumours over the past week that Fabregas might be looking for a move in the January transfer window and Manchester City could be the club that offers him that route out.  The Italian boss isn’t interested in shaping his team according to the needs of Fabregas, which is why the Spanish midfielder is finding it difficult to even get a start in the League. It might be a risky move but looking at the how the situation is developing, one feels that it might be time for Fabregas to look for a new home, as he goes on a search for more game time.
