Chelsea are considering bringing in the free agent and former Juventus defender Martin Caceres in the squad as the Blues manager looks to add to his defensive side.
Although Chelsea did sign Marcos Alonso and David Luiz as the deadline signings, manager Antonio Conte does not seem to be satisfied with the strength in his defense.
Reports further suggest that the Blues manager has contacted the player regarding his current situation. The Mirror says Conte “has been running checks” on the fitness of Caceres, who suffered injury problems in his final year at Juve.
But the 29-year-old Uruguayan is also being linked with a move to another Serie A club, with both Roma and Inter Milan keen.
Caceres has been linked Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma and Napoli through the summer, however, neither of the clubs managed to sign the player, whose £2.1m salary demands too have turned into a hindrance for any deal to get through.
The Blues manager has worked with the player during their time together at Juventus and this may work as an advantage for the player’s move to the Bridge, however one cannot ignore the fact that the 29-year-old Uruguayan player is prone to injury and will need to prove his fitness before the Blues go ahead with the deal.
