Chelsea have been in talks with Valencia centre-back Aymen Abdennour during the last few days of the summer transfer window for a potential move to the Bridge.
Abdennour was high on Everton manager Ronald Koeman’s list as well however the player’s move out of Valencia did not occur.
Reports suggest that Chelsea had made a move for Abdennour on the deadline day however they ended up re-signing former player David Luiz. The Tunisian centre-back has revealed that the move did not occur due to financial reasons although he had been in talks with the English clubs.
The defender said: “I was negotiating with English clubs during the transfer window, but for financial reasons the transfer did not happen.
“Valencia is a great club and I have no problem continuing because I have four years left on my contract.”
Valencia signed Eliaquim Mangala and Ezequiel Garay, whose presence may cause the player to go down the pecking order. Shkodran Mustafi will not be a competition for the player, having signed for Arsenal in a deal worth £35m this summer.
Chelsea signed five new players in the squad this summer, Michy Batshuayi, Eduardo, Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante and David Luiz.
