Chelsea Transfers: Pros And Cons Of Signing This Italian Wall

Chelsea will be active in the summer transfer as an upgrade is needed in at least three positions. A centre back, a centre midfielder and a striker are much needed in the squad and the work has started as the blues have sealed a deal for  Marseille striker, Michy Batshuayi just after the Belgian exit from Eur0 2016. It is heartening to see the new manager who is still busy at the Euros has addressed the issues in the squad and this transfer period is crucial for the club’s future.

Radja Nainggolan is the player who is being targeted by Antonio Conte to bring stability and much-needed solidity after last season’s horrific midfield show. If he decides to commit his future to bid present club, AS Roma, the blues are expected to bid for his national teammate then, Alex Witsel. John Stones has been a long-term target but the arrival of Antonio Conte means that he will try to convince any of his former players to come to ply their trade at the Bridge.

Stones won’t come cheap and with Man City also interested, Chelsea will need to look at other targets and the one name that has come up is of Juventus stalwart, Leonardo Bonucci. The Italian has been one of the best defenders in Europe during his time at Turin but can be lured by the attraction of Premier League and also because of his admiration towards Antonio Conte. Juventus will do everything in their capacity to keep hold of their prized asset but the blues need to do this business if they want to reach the summit again, quickly. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of signing Leonardo Bonucci :

Pros :

Bonucci is a one of a kind defender and is  in good form which enabled him to win the man of the match against Spain. Conte’s tactics play to his strength and in a 3-5-2 formation, he is the best in the world as he is a ball playing defender and likes to play from the back. In the absence of Andrea Pirlo, surprisingly Bonucci is the man who passes the ball elegantly and makes tough passes look easy. His 60-yard pass to Giaccherrini in the Euros was breathtaking and the blues need a defender of this ilk who knows Conte’s tactics inside out.

The Italian wall can make the difference between a top 6 finish and a top 3 finish for Chelsea and might become the perfect signing for the new manager to get hold of things in London.

Cons :

There are not many negatives to his game but the Premier League is the toughest in the world and he might need a bit of time to settle to life at Chelsea. Also, his signing can ensure a transfer saga this summer as Juventus won’t let go of the 29-year-old easily. The blues will have to pay a record sum for a defender if they want to secure his services.
