New campaign brings new hope and renewed aspirations for the supporters. With Antonio Conte announced as the new Chelsea manager, expectations are high from the Italian maestro to bring the glory days back at Stamford Bridge. His past records suggest that the blues are in safe hands after a disastrous season under Mourinho.
Conte’s tactics will be a welcome sign for the supporters with many changes expected in his first transfer window. This season should act as a wake-up call for all the important people in the board and the blues must not repeat the mistakes that resulted in the worst ever defense of a league title for the blues.
Along with the negatives, this season had some positive impacts too, such as the emergence of Cesc Fabregas as a leader and the promotion of youth into the first team squad. Let’s take a look the five things that the fans should expect from Chelsea next season:
1. Antonio Conte style of football:
The fans will get to see the team in a new formation and the defense is the area which will be most improved under the Italian. Conte’s teams are famous for a mean defense and a solid back four, it will be his biggest task to sort out the defense which has leaked many goals this season. After seeing the calm and composed Hiddink on the touchline, the fans will be ecstatic to see the Italian’s antics and Jurgen Klopp has some competition next season.
2. New faces:
Many changes are expected and are needed rightly so. The likes of Remy, Falcao, Mikel and Ivanovic are expected to be offloaded and some new faces will add depth and will definitely increase the squad strength. Conte must identify his targets quickly and look to sign some exciting players. Radja Nainggolan, Gonzalo Higuain are the rumoured targets and the fans will be hoping for some names to take the club back into the top four.
3. Young players regularly in the first team squad:
Conte decides his lineup on how the individual performs and not because of the name on the back of his shirt. This gives the young players at Chelsea a chance to impress the new manager and there is no depth of talent at Stamford Bridge. The likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Bertrand Traore have proved that they belong in the first team squad and many more are waiting in line to make their debuts.
4. Emergence of new leaders in the dressing room:
The famous old guard of Petr Cech, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba have departed that has left a void of leaders at Chelsea. With Ivanovic set for a move away from the Bridge, the blues are in dire need of leaders who can guide the team in difficult situations and cross the hurdle successfully. Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard can step up to the challenge and along with John Terry can guide the club back to the top.
5. John Terry – one last time:
The captain signed a new one year contract that brought relief to all the supporters. Letting him go would have been a very costly mistake and Conte will be lucky to have Terry in his squad in his first season in charge in London. This might be his last season at Stamford Bridge and the fans should relish the legend’s each game as he will look to end his career on a high.
