Mats Hummels has already expressed his desire to not renew the contract with Borussia Dortmund and has been linked with several European clubs. The player was earlier linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United but it may so happen that he lands up at Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Chelsea’s veteran defender John Terry has declared that he will be leaving the club in the summer and it will leave a massive void in the defence. There are probably very few in world football with the sense of defending and leadership quality that Terry possesses, and as a result of his departure, Hummels can be a suitable replacement. Kurt Zouma while promising may not be ready yet to step up to the plate and Cahill has been kind of a disappointment recently. Antonio Conte has a major rebuild work at his hand next season and Chelsea may look at Mats Hummels to plug in the gap left by Terry.
27 year old German has experience in highest level of football and also has been part of the World Cup winning team in 2014. While convincing him to join Chelsea without the lack of Champions League football may be a little difficult the Blues will have to count on Conte’s magic to do so.
